Movement as Medicine

Welcome! To my favorite aspect of health and well being. The key to Lifestyle Medicine! Its true that we need to practice ALL the aspects of LifeStyle Medicine to truly be healthy AND this aspect is one of my favorites because it's FUN! I have always loved to move. Starting as a little girl in all kinds of sports. Then as an adult I continued to ski, rock climb, white water kayak, and continue my studies of yoga. I find the therapeutic benefits of dance to be tremendously advantageous in supporting a healthy lifestyle and encourage my clients to choose one they enjoy! There are so many forms of dance movement today. I personally embrace and will teach a therapeutic form of dance therapy called 5Rythmns. This is a form of dance that follows at natural “wave” in the music, the movement and the instructors voice that supports deep and profound healing. To learn more about this dance therapy, go to the “Contact/Rates” section of this website and schedule a 30 min Free consultation.

Movement can be considered medicine because of its numerous benefits to physical, mental, and emotional health. Here are some key reasons:

  • Physical Health:

Cardiovascular Health: Regular physical activity strengthens the heart, improves circulation, and helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of heart disease.

Weight Management: Exercise helps burn calories and build muscle, aiding in weight management and preventing obesity.

Bone and Muscle Strength: Weight-bearing and resistance exercises enhance bone density and muscle strength, reducing the risk of osteoporosis and frailty.

Immune System: Regular movement can boost the immune system, helping the body fend off illnesses.

  • Mental Health:

Mood Enhancement: Exercise stimulates the production of endorphins, which are natural mood lifters, and can reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Cognitive Function: Physical activity increases blood flow to the brain, which can improve cognitive functions such as memory, attention, and problem-solving skills.

Stress Reduction: Exercise helps lower stress hormones, such as cortisol, and promotes relaxation.

  • Emotional Well-being:

Self-esteem and Confidence: Achieving fitness goals can boost self-esteem and confidence.

Social Interaction: Group activities and sports provide opportunities for socializing, which can improve emotional well-being and reduce feelings of loneliness.

Chronic Disease Prevention and Management:
So many of the modern “dis-ease” we experience as normal can be prevented. Chronic pain from inflammation can be eliminated and a healthy weight and exercise routine become less about “management” are more about our priorities shift to embrace a new lifestyle!
